Yummy: Leanlix Naturals Are A Favorite Dog Training Treat

AUTUMN 2014 UPDATE: Leanlix Naturals mold danger: The Cascadian Nomads no longer purchase this dog treat product ourselves and do not recommend using it or suggest using it with extreme caution. We had to throw away two containers of Leanlix Naturals after the products began to grow mold. We have no idea what kind of mold the treat was growing or if it was dangerous to the dogs but even an attempt to remove the moldy top and use the rest of the treat failed as the mold continued to grow.

You'll be surprised to learn that finding training treats all three of my dogs like is quite difficult. Wait. Finding training treats that not just Wilhelm likes and will work hard for isn't easy. I learned about Leanlix a few years ago at the Seattle Kennel Club Dog Show. I was really excited about the product. Leanlix is such a great idea, low calories and it is local. But I was not excited about the ingredients. I don't eat anything hydrogenated so I won't feed anything hydrogenated to my pets. Upon a visit to my favorite neighborhood pet store, Pet Elements, I saw that not only had they started carrying Leanlix but there was now a Leanlix Naturals line. Instead of hydrogenated glucose syrup as the first ingredient, the new Leanlix Naturals flavors has brown rice syrup as the first ingredient. Still not a super healthy main ingredient but better than hydrogenated glucose and, hey, it's a treat!

The very best part is that Wilhelm, Brychwyn and Huxley all like the Leanlix Naturals Grass Fed Beef flavor. And I mean they really like it! All three dogs recalls on our recent trip to First Beach were impeccable. Random sits while we are out and about lately have been super speedy. Before where there was a bit of "I might do what you are asking depending on what's in the bait bag" delay in our training, there is now enthusiasm and excitement. Brychwyn has even gotten so that he will do his leash reactivity preventing "with me" just from hearing the Leanlix lid "pop" open.

Speaking of the lid, I took the first Leanlix Naturals I purchased everywhere for the entire week and a half it lasted. It swung from my hands-free leash belt for miles and miles in sunshine and in rain. It fell on the sidewalk, It fell in the sand. Wilhelm and Brychwyn both had a chance to get a hold of it and take it to their beds like a chew. But did the Leanlix container crack or break throughout any of this real life abuse? No! The lid still pooped on and off tightly until the last lick was had. My only complaint is that the paper sticker around the tube disintegrated. I suppose most people don't walk in as much rain as Wilhelm, Brychwyn, Huxley and I do. Anyways, I solved this problem by wrapping clear packing tape around the new tubes I bought. I wanted to use clear tape so that the every five minutes people ask me what it is I am giving to the dogs, I can show them theLeanlix label.

These photos would normally have been product review outtakes but I just couldn't help posting them.
Is it obvious that Leanlix Naturals are pretty popular around here?

That is a great find and glad it is a hit with all of you. I suppose you are right they do not consider that some people will walk in the rain when designing the packaging. Have a terrific Tuesday.
Best wishes Molly

I am not surprised that a lot of package designs are not water proof but one whose founders are in Seattle ought to know better! :)

Sounds like a neat treat! My guys come running for plain ol' kibble, albeit high-end. Sometimes when my treats are too high value, it becomes counter-productive as odd as that seems. Especially during Jimmy's agility lessons, if the treat is too good, he can't think. He just wants that treat! And when rewarding both boys for good behaviors, a high value treat has sparked disagreements, shall we say.....

That doesn't sound odd. I have the same problem with Huxley. It is so tough to get the right balance between something he feels his work is worth but not something so perfect that he forgets what he is doing and his stomach leaves his brain behind! I am so glad my boys never disagree about even the very best of treats. All of my previous dogs had "disagreements" that landed many at the vet for stitches!

WOW! What a ringing endorsement by your three! I'm so glad you found something that works so well for all of them! And you're in Canada, or no? Because if you're US, I could send you some of my favorite training treats. My dogs all love the Jones taffies, which tear into tiny pieces.

I love training treats that break up into tiny pieces... but I don't love tiny pieces of treats under my fingernails and in my pockets. I haven't yet tried the break apart treat you gave me at BlogPaws. I'll let you know what I think!

I have never heard of those until now, but what a great idea! I am going to have to look for it.

According to the Leanlix website, they have retailers all over the country. You might have to ask your local retailer to carry the new Naturals line, though. You can also order directly from Leanlix!
