The day that I met and fell in love with Amelia, I excitedly left the shelter with my newly adopted cat (who was yet-to-be-named Amelia.) I also carried out a bag of Hill's Science Diet for Cats. The shelter I adopted both Emily and Amelia from is part of Hill's Food, Shelter & Love Program. Hill's provides significantly discounted food for every dog and cat in the shelter as well as a bag of Science Diet food or a $5 off coupon with each adopted pet. Since 2002, Hill's has donated $240 million worth of food to almost 1,000 shelters across the United States.

After getting my beautiful new kitty settled in her room and calling our veterinarian to schedule her first appointment, I sat down to peruse the huge packet of paperwork the shelter had sent home with me. Among all of the helpful coupons and flyers, was one from Hill's Food, Shelter & Love program to visit their new pet owner website for savings and tips on life with my new pet. It truly pleased me that Hill's mission went beyond providing food for my cat while she waited for me to find and adopt her. Hill's also wants to help families with newly adopted pets easily adjust to the major life change of caring for a new pet.

In their admirable efforts to provide continuous support to pets and people who live with pets, Hill's Food, Shelter & Love recently announced an expansion to their program, a Disaster Relief Network. According to Hill's website, this network is "comprised of over 110 shelters in all 50 states" providing a way for expedited pet nutrition orders in case of emergency. Since the Hill's Food, Shelter & Love Program already provides for over 100,000 homeless pets everyday, 365 days a year, this new Disaster Relief Network is a natural extension of the wonderful work they already do.

Hill's has already provided urgent food from Texas to Colorado. While I certainly hope none of my pets ever need them, I am glad the new Hill's Food, Shelter & Love Disaster Relief Program is out there. And I will always be grateful to Hill's for providing food to my Amelia while she waited at the shelter for me to adopt her.

My five purrballs are all rescues. I dontate to their rescue groups every year in honor of finding and taking care of them until I took them home.

Jodie says Wood to her brother. We just combed her this past weekend. Got a whole bag. lol

We donate to Emily and Amelia's shelter annually as well. Shelters and foster families are such special middle stops on our heart pets way home, aren't they?

In the spring I hung clumps of Huxley's fur in the trees for the birds but his fall blow out- and it was a lot! He's bigger than his sister...- I just had to throw away. My mom saved our huskies fur to make yarn... I think I am going to find someone to spin for me in the spring!
