My mom taught me how to love dogs. And she learned it from her parents. Last summer, I had the privilege of visiting the place where I spent my summers as I child with human and canine family. And best of all I got to be there with my dogs. All of my childhood memories include dogs (and various other pets...) and I often wonder if Wilhelm, Brychwyn and Huxley know how remarkable the memories I make with them are. Especially wonderful times are when my mom and I get together with our dogs. You may have seen my mom's dogs, Lucie and Morgan, on the blog a few times before.
Mom and I got together recently at Richmond Beach Saltwater Park, the beach just blocks from where I grew up and where my mom still lives, specifically for this Nature's Recipe ® post. It seemed to me that there was no better way to visually describe the human animal bond than with two generations of dog lovers sharing pleasant time with their dogs. It was even better that my mom and I met at the place where I walked my first dog, Natasha, and my second dog, Katrina, innumerable times as a child, young adult and teenager. The unexpected surprise in the Recipe For Moments photos my mom and I took is that not only do Wilhelm, Brychwyn and Huxley adore my mom but there is something extra special about time with Lucie and Morgan to them also. As a human who has spent her whole life surrounded by pets she loves, when I look at a notable day like this from the point of view of Wilhelm, Brychwyn and Huxley, I wish I could know what made the day more emotionally outstanding than just any old day at an off-leash beach. Do they know that Lucie and Morgan are the dogs of someone special to me? Science has taught us that dogs recognize their own family through scent and other canines by sight but I think dogs also understand how family feels. It certainly looks like they do, doesn't it? |
