Fit Dogs On A Mission

With Bethany resting because of a cold this week, Wilhelm, Brychwyn and I only got some chase time in the yard and some short walks or jogs with Jason. But yesterday Bethany was feeling better so she took us with her to run errands in the neighborhood. I really enjoy doing dog-friendly errands with my pack. Plus, walking around our neighborhood, even if it's to run errands, is great fit dog time.

The first thing we did was stop at The Wash Dog for mani/pedis. I hadn't been there in a long time so I was really excited to see all my friends there. I was even well behaved for my nail trim.  After the groomers, Wilhelm,

Brychwyn and I had to wait close by Bethany at this machine where she puts some stuff in and some stuff comes out. [Editor's note: this was an ATM.] None of the stuff that comes out are dog treats but Bethany gave us some treats* from her pocket anyways.

Next was one of the best stops on our dog-friendly errand walk, one of our neighborhood pet stores. A lady gave Wilhelm, Brychwyn and I a bunch of treats
* as soon as we walked in the door. Bethany looked around for a while, and we dogs showed her a lot of stuff that we wanted, but she didn't take anything to the counter. I don't understand. Everything smelled really good to me! And it is disappointing when we don't go to the counter because I always get treats from people behind counters.

Wilhelm and Brychwyn didn't like when Bethany went into a store that didn't allow dogs but I loved all the people walking by who stopped to pet me. A lot of people came out of the shop to pet me too. It was great! But what was even better was the last stop we made at another neighborhood pet store. We didn't get treats right away but since Bethany went to the counter at this store we got a lot of treats* there. Brychwyn and I even figured out that we could reach the treat bowl and we helped ourselves to a few. At first I wasn't sure this was polite but everyone in the store laughed at me gently taking treats from the bowl with my tongue, so I helped myself to a few more.

After all these errands, we walked home and I got some much needed couch time. We may not have spent the afternoon walking a half marathon or visiting a national monument but sometimes simple things are all a fit dog needs!

Hi Y'all!

Aren't you afraid someone will steal one of y'all when you are waiting by yourselves, outside the store?

Y'all come by now,
Hawk aka BrownDog

Good point, Hawk, but no. I never take my eyes off of the dogs when they are tied outside of store for a second. If the dogs can't go in and I can't see them the whole time I am inside, I don't go in!

I have to admit we go on a lot of errand walks. But we go to interesting places (for a dog!) some of the time. Like the taxidermy store or the outdoor market or the farm store that has bunnies and cats...

We used to run errand like that with Mom in Germany. At least there we could go with her in almost every store which was a lot of fun. Here we aren't usually allowed, so running errands has lost its fun for us ;(

I wish there were more errands I could take the dogs on... I call dog-free errands "boring errands" or "car errands." I'd always rather walk and take the dogs! If only businesses would figure that out... I'd spend a lot more money! :)

That looks like a fun way to get some fitness in.

PS- love the disclaimer at the end of the post. No, not the part about the promotion, but the part about accounting for treats:
"Always count treats as a part of any fit dogs daily calorie intake."

Spot on!

We love running dog-friendly errands too, and I love your ATM photo. Wouldn't it be funny if ATM's dispensed doggie treats? The bank used to give us doggie treats at the drive through window, but I'm not sure anyone does that anymore.

Rocco has learned which shops have treats behind the counter though, and he'll drag me into those shops as we walk. Brilliant marketing move as I can't resist doing a little shopping once I'm inside!
Happy FitDog Friday!
Your pals,
Diane and Rocco

We still get asked if the dogs can have treats at drive-thrus. In fact, the Washington State Ferries gave treats to the dogs the last time we were at the ticket booth! I tried to stand outside of a shop with the dogs that they are allowed in so Jason could just run in really quick and the dogs definitely had other/treat at the counter ideas! They hardly ever pull so much but they really like being allowed inside... and getting treats.

Looks like you guys had a fun outing! I wish we had more dog friendly businesses in my city but sadly the only places we can really go are the pet stores. :( Also, LOL at the treat theft! Wish you'd caught it on camera!

Joining Mom on the errands makes for a special day, especially when there may be treats or toys or extra attention involved!

Whew, personally I find errands for an hour far more tiring than walking in the neighborhood or hiking! It is fun when your dogs can join you though.
