We are being compensated for helping spread the word about Pet Naturals® of Vermont Hip+Joint for Dogs, but Cascadian Nomads only shares information we feel is relevant to our readers. As always, everything we share is honest and all opinions are our own. Pet Naturals® of Vermont is not responsible for the content of this article.
Typist: Bethany
Last year, Brychwyn shared with you the story of our discovery that glucosamine and joint supplements are not just for aging dogs and cats.  We also learned a lot about the importance of the amount of glucosamine your dog gets as well as the source and quality. Wilhelm, Brychwyn and Huxley have all been doing very well on their natural joint health supplement. The few times I neglected to buy it and we have gone without for a few days, I have noticed a difference in the fit dogs mobility, especially soon-to-be-seven weiner dog Wilhelm.
When I was first contacted by Pet Naturals to try Hip+Joint for Dogs, I hesitated. I had never before seen supplement treats that had enough glucosamine to make them a worthy supplement or a competitive price. Plus, if what we are doing is working, dare I risk mixing it up? When I saw Rebekah of My Rotten Dogs review of Pet Naturals Hip+Joint, I decided to give the Pet Naturals treats a try. And I am certainly glad I did!

The dogs really like Pet Naturals Hip+Joint for Dogs Bone Shaped Chews. A lot. And best of all I noticed no difference in their activity levels after switching. In fact, when comparing the ingredients of Pet Naturals Hip+Joint for Dogs, the dogs are each getting slightly more high quality glucosamine than they were with the supplement I had been giving. With more glucosamine per treat, Pet Naturals Hip+Joint for dogs is actually more affordable than our other natural joint supplement.

Is that all?
I was a little nervous about the very long ingredients list on the Pet Naturals Hip +Joint for Dogs Bone Shaped Chews but I researched all of the ingredients and they are indeed all natural. While not all of the active ingredients are truly proven to be beneficial for joint health and pain, they have not been shown to have negative side effects either. I really like how chewy the treats are and that the dogs don't just inhale them. The long inactive ingredients list is what makes these soft chews pleasant for me to give the dogs and enjoyable for the canines to consume.
Active Ingredients Per 2 Chews:
  • 750 mg of Glucosamine HCl (Shrimp and Crab) - We learned last year that Glucosamine HCl is often the easiest for the body to absorb.
  • 400 mg of Methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) - This supplement has been shown in small studies to help with osteoarthritis in humans, Like glucosamine, the body makes MSM naturally so raising levels can increase joint mobility.
  • 400 mg of Chondroitin Sulfate (Porcine) -  Also found naturally in the body and supplements are used to treat joint disorders but studies about it's effectiveness are ongoing.
  • 100 mg of Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) -  Acts as an anti-inflammatory when taken for joint health.
  • 100mg of N, N-Dimethylglycine HCl (DMG) - Vitamin B15 that in essence is the amino acid glycine of which high concentrations are found in connective tissues.
  • 18mg of Elcosapentaenoic (EPA) - An Omega 3 fatty acid used as a natural anti-inflammatory in conjunction with DHA.
  • 12mg of Docosahexaenoic (DHA) - An Omega 3 fatty acid found naturally in fish oil.
  • 5 mg of Manganese (Mn Proteinate) - Found naturally in many foods and could possibly relieve joint pain.
Inactive Ingredients Per 2 Chews: Allspice, Arabic gum, Brewers yeast, Calcium sulfate, Chicken liver flavor, Citric acid, Fish, Glycerin, Ground oat groats, Ground rye groats, Maltodextrin, Mixed tocopherols, Nutmeg, Oat meal, Pectin, Propionic acid, Rosemary extract, Silicon dioxide, Sodium alginate, Sorbic acid, Soy lecithin, Vegetable oil, Water.

...a chewy treat that slows a dachshund's eating is top notch!
Best of all, fit dogs Wilhelm, Brychwyn and Huxley just keep on moving... fast! The reason we began glucosamine supplements last year was so that these super active dogs can keep on moving and now that we have discovered Pet Naturals Hip+Joint for Dogs Bone Shaped Chews, continuing along as speedy fit dogs is now delicious too.

Thank you so much for the tip Rebekah. It is going to be so much easier to make the dogs work for these treats each day than beg them to eat the eat the tablets I was giving them.

We tried the joint supplements with Ancient Pip and now we buy the treat ones for me too. Peeps is keen on me keeping active. Yours are super fit though. Have a fabulous Friday.
Best wishes Molly

Tynan and Emily were both seniors when I started them on joint supplements. That's why I was surprised last year when the vet told me that active dogs and cats of any age can benefit from them. Keeping active keeps you young!

Thanks for the review. We know the importance of supplements like this for keeping your dog in fitdog shape. Our two are already seniors, so they've been getting glucosomine sine they came to live with us. Thanks for joining the Hop

It is definitely easier to notice the difference joint supplements make on senior dogs and cats but seeing the benefits in my younger boys has been impressive too.

Sounds good enough to try… which I will! Thanks for sharing the great offer. I love short dogs in tall grass too!

I look forward to hearing how Rocco likes the Pet Naturals Hip+Joint treats, Diane. He is the kind of fit dog that need joint supplements even though he is young too!

The boys were covered in grass seeds and fluff... I can only imagine how many Rocco would have collected if he'd run i the park with us!

So you give all three of them supplements, even the ones without bad joints? I considered giving Onyxx some because of his bad knees but I haven't considered it yet for Mr. N.

Last year the vet said she recommends that all active dogs be on joint supplements no matter their age. I would say Mr. N qualifies as active. Ask your vet but sign up for a free bag of treats and try them out!

Thanks! I was a unhappy about the unmowed grass at the off-leash park but the dogs were in belly's-tickled-by-grass heaven.

Our dogs get glucosamine everyday. We think it is pretty important since one of our dogs is getting old and slowing down and another has only three legs. For both these dogs the health of their joints is really important and their supplements seem to make a difference.

Even active and fit dogs who are not older or tripawds can benefit from glucosamine. I am so glad your dogs supplements work! When Tynan got older I am certain his joint supplement is what kept him going until his last days.

Hi Y'all!

Hmmm...have to get my Human to check into that for me...see what my vet says 'cause of my allergies.

Y'all come by now,

Joint supplements would be really great for an active dog like you, Hawk. Pet Naturals has other Hip+Joint products, many with simpler ingredient lists that may be better for dogs with allergies.

We have tried this treats and did like them. Norbert has pretty bad arthritis so we always look for anything to help. I can see I saw a marked improvement in his condition but they seemed to be tasty for the pets! We just ordered Vermont naturals flea and tick spray

Anything that makes it easier on the older dogs I'm all for. Used to give Glucosimine to a dog I had prior to Scooter & it did seem to make a difference - Happy Fitdogging
