Excuse Me, Miss, We Have Had Some Complaints About the Smell | #ScoopThatPoop

Typist: Bethany
I have never really talked with anyone but Jason about the odor problem I used to have. I would take the dogs out, clean up after them and pocket the bag of waste until I could deposit it in a garbage can. The terrible mistake I would often make is forgetting that I had a stinky bag in my pocket until I was in the groomers/pet store/pub having a conversation with someone... or trying to. I'd be mid-sentence when I'd become aware the terrible smell wafting from my pocket and try to politely high tail it out of there before anyone else noticed. But I'm sure others noticed. I was always just hoping to get away before anyone complained!

Then there's all those friends that used to frequently invite me and the dogs to walk with them. A few friends commented on the odor problem. others held their tongues (and probably their noses but I wasn't looking- I was trying to walk and clean up after three dogs!) Needless to say, by last fall, we didn't get invited out for walks with friends much anymore. Something had to be done! I am always, always going to clean up after my dogs but what about the smell?
Picture
Smell? What smell? We won't tell if you don't!
I bought myself a PoopPac last Christmas after reading a few reviews. I had very high hopes that this wonderful (and surprisingly stylish bag) would solve my odor problem before I was completely ostracized. At first I was unimpressed because I could still smell the bags full of waste zipped into the activated charcoal compartment. But Jason said he couldn't (and that I was being overly sensitive because of all the horrific odor problem experiences I had been through.) It wasn't until February, on a road trip in Oregon, that I realized I couldn't live without my PoopPac.

The PoopPac was with me. It was in the car. I glanced at it and thought “it’s just a short walk, in town, with public trash cans around, I’ll be fine.” I ended up toting four bags full of poop. Even Jason wouldn't walk on the same block as the dogs and I. I came to understand that the faint smell I still noticed from a full PoopPac was nothing compared to not having the PoopPac at all. And I doubt anything short of carrying a vacuum sealed container was going to be better. I have not walked the dogs without my PoopPac since.

I smell something but I won't complain.

You want me to do what now?

When was the last time you washed this?
The waste compartment of my PoopPac has plenty of space to carry all three dog's poop. The PoopPac itself clips solidly onto my hands-free leash waste belt and stays put. It doesn’t rattle or jiggle or drive me crazy on long walks like other waste clip bags I have tried. I have lot’s of poop bag holders and dispensers so I did not think I would use this PoopPac feature. Actually, the bag dispenser is very easy and convenient; I use it all the time. Best of all, every essential I need on short walks or errands in the neighborhood fits inside the sanitary compartment of my PoopPac. The zippers are occasionally sticky but they don’t seem fragile like I had at first feared. I want my PoopPac to last a long time and so do the dogs since I will not walk them without it. And everyone we encounter is very glad for that!

I honestly almost did not upgrade to an iPhone 5 in fears it would not fit in my PoopPac. It does! Along with my wallet and hand sanitizer. I also load extra bags around the roll just in case.

Have you ever had to turn and run when you realized there was a stench coming from your pocket? What do you do about your odor problems?
(I do mean dog waste odor problems. Please stay on topic!)

Thankfully we can now walk places without getting thrown out because of the smell... unless we find something to roll in...

Oh what a cool little poop carrier! I'm reviewing something similar on my blog today, but this looks pretty heavy duty. I'm sure with the 3 of them, you have a lot of poop on your hands!

This post is about the poop in my PoopPac, Ann. The poop on my hands is a whole other (and much more embarrassing) post!

I can't say I've ever forgotten I had poop in my pocket. But I've been horrified by the smell in the back of my car on a hot day after forgetting a bag there the day before. Yuck!

I think the best solution would be poop bags with wings. Once you scoop, they automatically fly themselves to the nearest, appropriate receptacle. :)

I kept full waste bags in the PoopPac in the van at times during our cross-country road trip and it was great to have the smell minimized when there was nothing to do but pack it out... the winged bags would need some serious power to get to the nearest receptacle from some of the middle of nowhere places we've been!

We are lucky that most of the time there is a garbage can along the way. Sometimes if there is not we just deal with the smell or we bring a ziplock bag along to help contain the odor. Never seen a thing like the poop pack, pretty neat!

I used to do the ziplock bag thing too (it's what my family did to pack it out when backpacking when I was a child!) but I felt bdg sealing the poop up in a non-biodegradable bag. There are biodegradable zipper bags now though so that would be a good, less bulky smell control option for sure!

That carrier is soooo cute! I have one of those lil bones with baggies in them however, I've never had to use it. I'm lucky in that Titan will only poop in his own back yard. Weird, right? This is really cute though. I'd might be tempted to use it as a purse. :)

I was pinning this post and saw that PoopPac now has pink zippers too! I am going to get another one, maybe just to carry soda around!

It's very light weight for hiking and controls odors in the vehicle too. I bet you would use on your adventures it as much as we do!

That is the BEST poop bag dispenser/holder I have ever seen!! I must have missed it when others were reviewing it. We always scoop the poop and now that I have switched to a raw food diet, my poop hardly smells at all.

Well - first of all - I must admit I would never stick a bag of dog poop in my pocket - no matter what!!!! Thankfully everywhere we visit has trash cans so we can find one within 50 feet. We do use orderized bags from Arm and Hammer - they are brilliant! As soon as you tie the top there is no smell at all - they area also bigger then most poop babs - which we like - not because the boys are big poopers but it just makes it easier to tie them :)

I used to say that but then I ended up with three dogs, sometimes four or five bags of poop, often in the rain... I tried some kind of scented bags for walks with one of my most vocal about the smell friends and she then complained it smelled like a pile of poop with flowers stuck in it. Nice picture, isn't it?

There seem to be a bajillion poop scoop products on the market, but I really like the way this one sounds. Thanks for a great review! The charcoal and the belt clip are real sellers for this one.

I bought charcoal replacements but even with all our use, the pack it came with lasted five months. I really can't say enough good things about PoopPac (and I do not work for them, I swear!)

I don't think I've ever had a problem out in public. My neighborhood has plenty of trash cans as well as poop stations. But once in a while I have put a poop in my pocket, and gone home, only to hang the jacket back in the closet. Oops....or should I say POOPS! The next time I open the closet door, I get a very fragrant reminder! Fortunately, as Oz mentioned, being on a raw diet does reduce the odor significantly.

Thank goodness now all I do is accidentally leave full waste bags in my PoopPac. I am thankful that the dogs healthy diet means their poop really doesn't smell all that bad... but all pocket poop smells bad, even in coat made of rose petals! :)

Yeah... the PoopPac has helped stop me from doing that too... or just swinging my arms while walking with a bag in my hand... Or holding my coffee in the same hand as the bag...

Man, having two small dogs it would take me a week to fill that thing up. Ha, ha. Ok, probably not a week. Usually where I walk I have access to a trash can within a quarter mile and I don't mind carrying the bag until then. Once though I wasn't near a trash can and was driving my hubby's car. I tossed the bag inside the car until I found a trash can....but forgot it. He found it a few days (warm days unfortunately) when he got in the car. Ooopsie. Luckily he loves the dogs. Me too I guess :)

It definitely wasn't so bad, odor or hassle, to pack out the poop when it was just me and Wilhelm. These poop smell in the car stories are making me want to get a separate PoopPac just for the car!

Fantastic review! I gotta say, that's probably the snazziest poop holder I've seen so far. All the compartments and such... and it looks very high-quality, not cheap and flimsy.
But your story, lol... so funny. "Man, why does this lady smell like poop? I wish she'd stop talking to me." *snort*
Our dogs do most of their pooping in the backyard and I always pick it up, usually performing poop patrol at least once a day, sometimes twice. They only rarely go on walks, so I don't have to worry about toting it around with me very often. You're a brave woman to have ever carried it in your pocket. No way!! lol

Hi! Thanks for stopping by our blog today.luckily I haven't had to put any poop in my pocket. If I don't see a trash can I tote the little bag to the car and put it in the back by our gear so I don't forget to get it out. As far as your comment about clean up at home, our neighbors do not clean up after their two labs and it is horrible when we mow along the fence line by their yard. We keep hoping they might get the hint when they see us cleaning up every day.

I would never stick poop in my pocket -.-

That being said, I want one of these. The smell of dog poop is the worst part of bagging poop to me, and this would be so much less stressful. Plus, it's cute! Yay!

That looks pretty cool! I admit... I did once forget. Our beagle had done a small poop, which I bagged and then tied on the end of the leash. I totally forgot and hung the leash in the closet. The next morning, it took me a while to figure out why the closet smelled so terrible!

It was only couple times when the doggy poop remained in my pocket, as that particular place didn't have anything to dump it in. Generally, all the trails around here do have bins at the entrance/exit where the baggies can get deposited.

I do agree that poop in the pocked indeed does smell, even though it's in a scented (why??) baggie.

I found that a dog's diet makes a huge difference in odor. I used to feed kibble exclusively, and found that higher quality brands produced less odor. We used to have a dog next door that was fed a cheap grocery store brand of kibble, and oh my the smell that wafted over was horrendous! It made sitting on our own patio impossible. I now feed mainly a real food cooked diet, and the poop is almost odor free (just like the raw food people say).

Wow - we've never heard of or seen the Poop Pac. What a cool idea! Mom usually puts my bag of poop into another plastic bag & puts it in her backpack, but she never thought about the smell. Sounds like a handy thing if you can carry other stuff in it too.

What a great product. There are a lot of these I never give a second thought to since i am out in the country but those would be great for city life. I wouldn't want to be locked up in a car with that smell for sure.

Wow! A PoopPac..just to carry waste? That's interesting. The item actually looks quite sturdy and useful. My sapiens' don't have the odor problem because I see that they are very quick and eager to get rid of my deposits! But I can completely see how if you pocket them..it would easily be forgotten. Interesting post!
