A Wish Comes True: National Walk Your Dog Week Celebration #DogWalkingWeek

Walk Your Dog Week Celebration
Typist: Bethany
Just a little over three years ago, I fell fourteen feet onto concrete. Wilhelm and Brychwyn were in the yard when I fell and after checking on me Jason went to calm them down then put the dogs in the house before taking me to the hospital. As I lay on the ground struggling to breathe, listening to a distressed dachshund and worried corgi, waiting for Jason to help me into the car, all I could think to wish for was to be okay so I could walk my dogs again.

I have loved walking my dogs as long as I can remember. I walked my first husky, Natasha, almost everyday. My first dog as an adult, Tynan, became the ultimate fitness partner, inspiring me to become a competitive marathon walker. Now, I have Wilhelm, Brychwyn and Huxley to remind me each and every day not only how lucky I am just to be alive but that I am able to walk.

National Walk Your Dog Week
My passion for dog walking has lead to a Cascadian Nomads partnership with My GBGV Life to create a National Walk Your Dog Week Celebration. Beginning on Wednesday, we'd like all of readers, followers and fellow bloggers to commit to everyday dog walks all week long. Cascadian Nomads, My GBGV Life and hopefully many more awesome bloggers will be adding posts to a Walk Your Dog Week Blog Hop every day of the week, encouraging and inspiring fabulous, fun dog walking. Best of all, everyone who commits to walking everyday of the week, shares a photo or video using the #DogWalkingWeek hashtag, and enters on a PromoSimple widget (available October 1st) will be eligible to win a Walk Your Dog Week prize pack.
We invite dog bloggers to join the Walk Your Dog Week Blog Hop, October 1st through 7th, with posts about dog walking. Share tips, tools, stories, etc, commit to walking your dog every day as well as motivate others to do the same. On October 9th, a Walk Your Dog Wrap-Up Blog Hop will begin where bloggers can share posts about how the week went and how to continue regular dog walks in the future. Readers and followers are welcome to make a pledge to walk your dogs through blog comments and share your inspirational stories with us on social media. The giveaway winner will be chosen when our celebration ends on October 13th. Get ready for all the fun now. Check out event details, rules and grab the badges here. Then, simply walk your dog! Each and every step is a joy for me and I want everyone to share in my jubilation.

Nice one.Taking time out to go for a walk together somewhere new is always fun. We love to explore too but usually it is only our park, big sigh. Maybe we can celebrate by going somewhere different. Have a super Saturday.
Best wishes Molly

It is nice to have an awareness week like this to inspire us to mix things up! And maybe you will have so much fun, you'll do it more often.

One of the things that drives me crazy where we live in there are no sidewalks NONE......which means to walk around the neighborhood you have to walk on the road which I hate doing because Arkansas has the WORST drivers in the USA. SO our walks are always at the parks which is why we go to so many :)

I so now how you feel! Whenever we travel I get very freaked out having to walk on roads without sidewalks. Wilhelm, Brychwyn and Huxley are such city dogs that they are really bad at walking without the visual/physical barrier of a sidewalk and/or a curb. I love your park pictures and adventures- I look forward to you sharing some with us in Walk Your Dog Week hop!

Mom's worst fear is breaking a leg and not being able to walk. She had to wear a boot two years ago but kept walking and wore it out in two weeks, the doctor wasn't happy, but Mom can't not walk. Thank you so much for asking us to partner with you. It will be a ton of fun!

Yeah, I wouldn't let a little thing like a boot stop me either. My doctor got mad at me when I didn't rest a torn calf enough many years back. Walking with crutches was fun and a good upper body and core work out! :)

That had to be so scary. So glad you're okay and you can still walk your dogs!

Oddly, I was not scared I would die until later when the doctors said I was close. I was only afraid for the dogs... and I am so glad it all worked out for them and me!

What a scary thing that must have been, and I bet you only let it slow you down for as long as you had to.
This is a great idea. We aren't consistent with our walking, so this kind of challenge is exactly what I need to get motivated and maybe it will kick off better habits for me. The dogs are always willing, even though they're not the best at walking on leashes (something we need to work on)!

I'm still a little slow but being up and moving feels better than sitting still! I surely hope the challenge helps you; I bet you'll be pleased with how just seven days of leash walking in a row improves your dogs manners!

Woo-hoo! I will be walking four dogs also so I am glad we will have each other for support... though the total weight of my four is probably equal to only two of yours. :)

I love it! I have always loved walking the dogs, and it is always a good idea to remind ourselves that we are lucky to have mobility and function that some people don't get to have! Plus its amazing how happy it makes your dog to exercise with them.
