A Big Boat, A Little Island and Three Dogs of All Sizes

Yesterday, I took my corgi and collie on a boat ride! The day was a special Argosy Cruise trip planned by CityDog Magazine, Dog Day on Elliot Bay. We three dogs, Brychwyn, Huxley and I, joined dozens of other dogs for a cruise on a boat from downtown Seattle to Tillicum Village and the Washington State Park on Blake Island in Puget Sound. We were served hot dog slices and bacon peanut butter biscuits on the boat plus a delicious brown rice, turkey, carrot and broccoli lunch on the island. The ladies from The Dining Dog Cafe, who served us all of that scrumptious food, are some of the best people I have ever met in my whole life and, while I prefer living with Bethany and Jason, my corgi and my collie would likely follow those chefs anywhere.

But enough about the food. We rode on a boat! The morning and early afternoon were overcast so we stayed cool as we waited patiently to board our boat, the Lady Mary. The boat ride was chilly and breezy. The sea air smelled divine, especially when mixed with the scent of hot dogs, bacon and peanut butter.  I wanted to ride that "boat to the moon somehow" but, just as we had gotten our sea legs, the boat stopped! Grr. We got off on the island (which I will admit was pleasant) but it was not a boat.

While on Blake Island, we hiked gravel trails, grass fields and walked along the beach. Brychwyn found a lot of deer droppings and tried to have a few extra snacks. Huxley and I saved room for more sophisticated doggie goodies! All of the dogs and people from our boat were served lunch in Tillicum Village's totem garden outside of the large longhouse. Fortunately the sun didn't come out until late afternoon so it was cool enough to savor our meals and enjoy the totem garden. After lunch was the perfect time for some wading on the beach and a lot of rolling in the grass. Dogs aren't allowed on beaches at City of Seattle parks, so this was some special, close to home beach time. The island was lovely and we had a good adventures but, really, I just wanted back on the boat.

At long last, we got back on the boat! It was sunny and warm and we lazily cruised back to downtown Seattle. Please don't think just because I slept pretty much the entire boat ride back that I didn't totally love every second of it. I mean, I napped on a boat! It just doesn't get any better. Sadly, we eventually had to get off the boat again. My corgi, my collie and I rode the bus back home which was also a fun adventure but, c'mon, it wasn't a boat. Can you believe I rode a boat?

Thanks to Alfie's Dog Blog, Snoopy's Dog Blog and My Brown Newfies for hosting the Monday Mischief blog hop. We're pretty sure no one else got to do anything as amazingly fun as riding on a boat but hop around and check out the mischief. Thanks for hopping by!

What a great dog outing! Were any of the other dogs nervous about being on a boat?

My guys love riding on boats as it usually means they will get to swim! They even ride our jetski!

We didn't see any nervous dogs. A lot of them had even been on this annual cruise before. I bet any dogs nervous about the boat could ride inside the cabin and it would just feel like a bumpy car ride. But why would they not love the boat ride? I mean, it's a boat ride!

Pawsome adventure. Interesting chairs to us in the boat. We had a very interesting weather too ... sun and clouds. Seattle got a beautiful skyline too but ours is better :-) We sure have same LIKES of adventure. Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar

Well, of course we like the same kinds of adventures, Sugar. My crush on you goes much deeper than just your smiling, golden good looks. Next time we'll have to plan better and go on a boat ride together; it could be a doggie date!

What a pawsome adventure you guys had = we could almost smell the salt air and hear the seagulls squawking over head. How lucky were you.

It was so, so fun. I do always love to sniff the sea air but I don't pay much attention to the birds. My corgi and my collie always get in trouble for trying to herd the birds. Well, YOU know...

We went last year and it was pretty fun. It was hot and sunny last year so I got a sunburn sitting out on the deck. Looks like the tide was out a little further so you got to explore the beach. Gretel loves beach smells and likes chasing the birds.

Everyone commented on how lucky we were with the weather this year. The beach was so nice we didn't do much more island exploring as planned. The deck on the way back was very sunny- and if I want out of the sun you know it's a lot!

I think boats and dogs go great together. How could any vehicle that's hosed off at the end of the day not be pet-friendly?

Looks like you had a great time. Thanks for sharing the pictures of your adventure.

There's got to be a dog day boat ride somewhere/sometime in your 'hood Finn! Bethany took cruises out of NYC every chance she got. I wish I could have gone... *whine*

That really looks fun. But I would be sick as a dog. No pun intended.

I'm glad I don't get sea sick but Bethany had to face forward the whole time. She drank something from the bar that I wasn't allowed to lick that she said helped too. :)

Thanks, Molly. Bethany and Jason liked the totems too but posing for fabulous pictures gets a bit boring. Well, you don't need me to tell you about that with all the fab pictures you do!

That looks amazing guys! Especially the food ;) I just read over at Sugar's blog that she got to ride a boat too. Shiner has been on a boat before. We have a family lakehouse and my dad's hobby is fixing boat motors and boats at this moment in time. Shiner was not good on the boat lol... but our old Sheltie used to LOVE riding in the boat!
