It's tough to admit that a beloved dog or cat is overweight. It can be even more difficult to admit that the humans of the household may be at fault if there is a need for cat weight loss or diets for dogs. I know. I have had to face the hard fact that I had caused the need for my dog and cats to need to lose weight. And it isn't that I didn't love them! I most certainly wanted them to live long, healthy lives. Yet I didn't want them to think I was starving them or depriving them of nutrients or food either. I knew a diet was in the best interest of my pets, it was very difficult to limit my dog and cats portions enough to help them lose weight. How could I resists those big, starving doggy eyes or sad, hungry kitty meows?

I know you love me but my bowl is empty.
Fortunately, I am a very disciplined person and I knew, no matter how diligent my overweight cats or overweight dogs were about begging for food, I could be more stubborn. Not everyone has such willpower. That's where Hill's® Prescription Diet® Canine Metabolic Advanced Weight Solution and Hill's® Prescription Diet® Feline Metabolic Advanced Weight Solution can help. A diet with this food is not about depriving. People ready to begin weight loss for dogs or cats can feed Hill's® Prescription Diet® Metabolic Advanced Weight Solution food and treats (yes treats!) without worry that their pets think they're being starved. After all, cat and dog weight loss is about helping our pets be healthier and happier. But the words "diet" and "happy" are rarely synonymous, for humans or pets.

It is possible to love our overweight pets enough to help them find health and happiness again without depriving them. We humans just need to redefine how we show our love to our pets.

Loving them more doesn't have to mean there is physically more of them. And feeding so there is less fluffy feline or chubby canine doesn't mean you love them less. I certainly don't love Amelia less now that there is less of her. But I think she might love me more for helping her get her health and energy back. So "diet" and "happy" can sometimes be used together. Amelia's diet and subsequent weight loss made us both happy. And that is true love.

It's definitely hard to resist Shiner's "feed me" eyes. Fortunately, she's never really been fat before.

I counter "I want a piece of your cheese" eyes by giving away a carrot or some kale instead!

Great advice! I know, and have went through this as well with one of my cats and one of my huskies. I am actually still somewhat working with my dog, Mika, she put on some extra weight over the winter, so we are trying to get that off of her.
Great post!
