Early Wednesday morning I found out that it was National Lighthouse Day. I have written before about my soft spot for lighthouses (I have "Pete's Dragon" on while I type...) and we happen to have a neighborhood lighthouse just a couple of miles away. So, of course, we walked to the Alki Point Lighthouse.
It was a gorgeous, sunny day. It was not too hot out and the air smelled fresh and salty. There was a very low tide. Dogs are not allowed on beaches in the City of Seattle (it is very bad for sea life!) so we watched the heron's fish and sniffed the sun warmed sea weed from the avenue.
Like all healthy fit dogs should, we stopped in the shade often and drank a lot of water. The walk was just a little over five miles but that wasn't enough for 'R' Boood on the Tracks Boys. When they got back to their yard, they chased and wrestled. I turned their misters on to keep the playtime cool. It was really fun having National Lighthouse Day inspire this great impromptu fit dog outing. I think I will keep better track of some of these novelty days for more exercise motivation. Though I doubt anything could be as great as visiting our local lighthouse on such a gorgeous day. |
