Dog Walking Esstentials: Blue Merle Cardigan Welsh corgi waits for a #DogWalkingWeek walkDog Walking Essentials hang from the pet stroller.
Typist: Bethany
There are certain things that I never leave home without. My smart phone and my house key are good examples. Those essential items fit nicely into my PoopPac which I always have attached to my Umbilical Belt or the pet stroller. I keep all of my dog walking necessities, like the PoopPac, Umbilical Belt, dog water bottles and travel dishes, organized inside of our entry closet door. I can easily and quickly be ready for a dog walk, an urban hike or a day trip at anytime. Sometimes when I am not in the mood for a walk (yes, that does happen) it helps to have everything so accessibly in one place to make it fast and simple to get out the door. Once I am out walking the dogs, I am always glad to have made it happen.

The Dog Walking Closet: Get Organized And Get Walking #DogWalkingWeek
The Dog Walking Closet
I never go anywhere without my PoopPac and all the attcheed essentials. #DogWalkingWeek
Dog Walking Essentials
Make sure you have a good pair of shoes, socks (I recommend double layer socks not just for blister prevention but for dryness and warmth,) rain gear, warm clothes and clothes to protect from sun with your dog walking gear too. When I was a personal trainer, professional conversations amongst colleagues almost always centered around how to motivate people to get off the couch and exercise. The best piece of advice that still holds true is that if your gear is ready, and going is effortless, you are more likely to go. So if you are trying to get out for your dog walk early int he morning, set up your gear the night before. When you plan to walk immediately after work, try putting on your walking shoes before you leave work. Anything that makes getting out of the house for your dog walk uncomplicated means you are more likely to actually go and definitely more apt to enjoy yourself. Oh, and while you're doing all your planning and organizing for your walks, don't forget the dog(s)!

leashed What type of "off leash dog repellant" do you use? Asking b/c my dog was attacked by an off leash dog...and we've had 2 other close calls.

Fortunately. I have never had to use my off-leash dog repellent, but it is a citronella spray. I did some research and that seemed to be the safest (for my dogs, just in case) yet usually effective (on the illegally off-leash dog) product to get. I am so sorry that your dogs have been attacked. Stories like yours are exactly why I never leave home without my spray.

We have a closet like that but it is about twice that size and has all Mom's gear in it too along with our nose work bag, tracking bags, etc. You need to have it all readily available depending on where you are walking.

I used to keep all of our training gear in that closet but Jason said he needed room for his stuff too! The only non-human gear on the human side is our K9 First Aid Kit: http://www.cascadiannomads.com/pet-adventure-blog/kit-updating-our-perfectly-complete-do-it-yourself-pet-first-aid-kit

I want a PoopPac so badly, to the point of considering putting it on my Christmas wish list, lol!
Great idea to keep all the gear in one place! I try to do the same, it definitely helps on those days you don't feel like going for a walk. It also helps that Petal has taken to occasionally throwing my shoes at me when she wants to go, lol!

I always bring my loose dog spray with me now too! I haven't had to use it, but I feel so much more secure now and that has helped Petal to feel more secure as well.

Great post!

we are lucky that where we walk there is hardly anyone (or doggie) ever around. People around here just aren't into walking which is sad. We do carry a backpack in the car with all the essentials in it for when we go on long hike but the rest of the time we just have the basics.

I am not a very organized person. Although, I am trying to get better about it. Recently I got a tote to keep stuff in. When I lived in Oregon and had my own car I always just kept extras of everything in the car, that way I always had supplies with me. Now we just have one car and my husband is the primary user. So I got the tote and I'm slowly getting better at figuring out exactly what I need.

Whoa! That's a lot of gear! Ours is pretty simple for our regular walk-dogs, dog collars, leashes, and poop bags. Then we set out.
