Just a little over a mile from Michael and the Alaskan Klee Kai's house, Brychwyn, Huxley and I went for an unusual leashed dog friendly hike through the woods. Bethany and Michael called our adventure "disc golf" but I say it was fabulous fit dog time. While the humans threw flying saucers, we leashed fit dogs hiked along dirt, wood chip, gravel and grass paths, as well as sniffed a wide variety of trees and bushes. Part of our hike was even along the raging White River.

I have been to Game Farm Wilderness Park in Auburn, Washington for disc golf fit dog time before, but I used to be very loud when people throw things. Bethany has done something she calls desensitization with me and now instead of barking like crazy when an object flies through the air, I expect a treat for being quiet and calm. Sometimes people using the disc golf course break the law and don't have their dogs on a leash and this is something that makes me (and Brychwyn and Huxley) bark. Fortunately, during our visit this week we had the full course to ourselves. I am a dachshund who certainly loves off-leash playtime but during disc golf people should obey the park rules and keep their dogs on an eight foot leash. It's dangerous for canines to be off-leash with all those flying saucers everywhere! Bethany had we three fit dogs attached with bungees to her hands free leash Umbilical Belt for our walk to and from the park as well as the entire eighteen holes. She said she played an excellent game and Brychwyn, Huxley and I got plenty of exercise. We walked a total of five and one quarter miles!

We have had some relatively warm afternoons here in Cascadia lately, so it is nice that our disc golf course hike had a lot of shade and plenty of water stops. There was a gentle breeze when the course took us along the White River. For some reason Bethany and Michael threw their discs into the bushes a lot more when our hike got breezy. They complained about where their flying saucers landed but Brychwyn, Huxley and I loved tromping through the brush and helping to sniff out the discs on the ground.

Now that I can be quiet around items being thrown, Bethany says we might get to have more fit dog time on disc golf courses. I'm all for fit dog time with such varied terrain, activities and fun. I think that the Game Farm Wilderness Park disc golf course will always be extra special though because it is such a pleasant walk from Michael and the Alaskan Klee Kai's house. Plus it was my first noisy and quiet disc golf experience. Measuring learning and fitness progress always makes a locale memorable.
