West Seattle Junction Harvest Festival Special: A Collie Dog, Corgi Ketchup & Dachshund Mustard

Typist: Huxley
With the exception of there being no sheep for me to herd, my West Seattle neighborhood is pretty great. I am a very lucky collie to get to go to so many dog friendly places and events. One such special dog occasion happened last weekend, the West Seattle Junction Harvest Festival. At first, Brychwyn, Wilhelm and I thought Jason and Bethany were more crazy than usual for dressing us in our Halloween costumes and taking us walking in a downpour. However, the rain ended when we arrived in The Junction and the smells of an expanded farmers market as well as the fabulously fun music of the West Seattle High School marching band made it clear we were all in for an exciting adventure. As the Cascadian Nomads humans and canines wandered the festival, I overheard people say things like "look at that huge hot dog" and "how cute, ketchup and mustard." I didn't quite understand because it is autumn and I was not at all hot. I think ketchup and mustard are people food but no one gave Wilhelm, Brychwyn or I any food. I did get tons of petting and I posed for a lot of pictures. I like that.

I also overheard many oddly dressed children say "trick or treat." I know a few tricks and I get treats when I do them but I didn't see any of the children doing tricks the way I do. Maybe just wearing a costume is a trick? I think I should have been given a lot more treats, if that is the case. In fact, if wearing a Halloween costume is a trick, then almost everyone at the Harvest Festival deserved a treat. There were so many dressed up adults and children, the event was a feast for all of my doggie senses. Perhaps that was the treat so many festival attendees spoke of?

I have never seen a human enjoy the smells or even the sounds and sights of any outing as much as a dog so I doubt the treat for the senses was why the The West Seattle Junction Harvest Festival was so popular. The event definitely had some kind of amazing human appeal because the crowds of humans kept growing and growing. It got hard for a large dog like me, hot or cold, to maneuver the streets. As Bethany, Jason, Wilhelm, Brychwyn and I left the festival. there were still more strangely dressed people flocking to the event. Since the rain still hadn't come back, we Cascadian Nomads, walked more of the neighborhood and ran a few errands. We even stopped for a few more pictures. This time I did get treats and the tricks were easy.

Even with the treats, there was something about this excellent dog friendly adventure in West Seattle that made me hungry. I suppose everyone talking about hot dogs, ketchup and mustard can do that to a dog. Or maybe it was all the trick or treaters. It was a great relief to get home to my couch just before the rain returned. I had seen, smelled and heard so many fascinating things at the West Seattle Junction Harvest Festival yet as I napped, I dreamed about hot dogs. Isn't that strange?

The End.
Special thanks to The Wash Dog for the fun Halloween back drop seen in the last two group photos.

The Good, The Bad And The Opposite Of Ugly

9/29/2014

Typist: Bethany
Just a few days after we returned from the UK, my mom's corgi, Morgan, came to stay with us while mom visited family in Buffalo, New York. Honestly, having four dogs when I was jet lagged, ill and dealing with Jason's sister in the hospital was not necessarily fun. After Morgan left, though, I kind of missed him. Having four dogs did have it's plus sides too. I got a reminder to be careful what I wish for yesterday afternoon when Morgan came to stay again. This time the circumstances are bad. My mom has gone back to New York because my grandfather is in the hospital. I certainly hope the craziness with my human family will soon cease but in the mean time, there will be a lot of adorable pet mischief around here.
Couch Dogs: black and tan dapple miniature long haired dachshund and blue merle cardigan welsh corgi.
Wilhelm and Morgan: Every dachshund should have a choice of two corgis to cuddle.
Typist: Wilhelm
It is my obligation as a hound to live the motto the more the merrier. There are certain times this saying would not apply like if I had to share my food. Usually, though, I prefer having more dogs around to play with and to cuddle with. Especially short legged ones.
Mischief? Only is adorableness is naughty: blue merle cardigan Welsh corgi and harlequin blue merle rough collie.
Morgan and Huxley: Mischief? Only if adorableness is naughty.
Typist: Huxley
The only reason the story of Morgan coming to stay with us again is part of Mischief Monday is because he came back yesterday. Otherwise, there is no way the word "mischief" applies to anything we do together. Just look at our innocent faces. What kind of trouble could we possibly make?
Blue Merle Cardigan Welsh corgi dog and Abyssinian tabby cat.
Morgan and Amelia: Only mischievous if one forgets which one is in charge.
Typist: Amelia
Everyone expects me to be upset about having a fourth dog around. Yet I don't really mind. In fact, since Morgan doesn't live with a cat, I can get away with all kinds of fun feline tricks when he visits. Morgan loves it when I bat at him from under a door, surprise him from around a corner or jump down in front of him from on high. So as long as their is still room for me on the beds and I get to constantly show Morgan who is the boss,er, I mean, play with the second corgi, all is well

Typist: Leo

The other doggie-doggie* is alright. He is much quieter than the doggie-doggie** which is good because I prefer to be the loudest in the family. When any of the doggies are being mischievous, I get to yell at them and that makes me happy. It doesn't always please Bethany and Jason for some reason though. I am used to my help going appreciated but with four dogs to keep in line, it seems like my help would be better received. Apparently my assistance is too loud, whatever that means.
* What Leo calls Morgan.
**What Leo calls Brychwyn.
Triton cockatoo (parrot) and blue merle cardgian welsh corgi dog.
Morgan and Leo: No problems being loud.
Blue merle cardigan Welsh corgi dogs
Brychwyn and Morgan: Isn't one corgi enough?
Typist: Brychwyn
When Morgan comes over, he and I try our best to get along. However, I do not like it when Morgan out stays his welcome. A few hours is enough time to admire the loveliness of two corgis, right? Why does Morgan have to spend the night and especially a lot of nights? If he joins us on walks, all of the people that we meet don't only pay attention to me. Why pay attention to him? He doesn't even have one whole blue eye. I suppose if I didn't have to share attention, the couch, the bed, the other pets, the humans or anything at all with Morgan, he wouldn't be so bad to have around. In fact, having another corgi to play with is kind of fun sometimes. Only sometimes.

Typist: Morgan
My third time staying with the Cascadian Nomads and my second time at a keyboard. What an honor. I'll tell you though, the last time I was here, I was so glad to leave that I didn't even say goodbye to Bethany. But when I got here yesterday, I was really excited and happy to see everyone. Once I was settled, I spent some time on the bed and on the couch with Wilhelm. I especially like the couch part because I am not allowed on the couch at my house. Cuddling with Wilhelm is comforting since I usually cuddle with Lucie at my house.

Huxley and I sniffed around the yard together.
It smells different even though it seems like I was just here! The cat scared me one of the times I was walking down the hallway; I always try to give her a wide berth but she still seems to find me. When the other dogs chase the cat after she pounces on me, that bird starts hollering. Bethany doesn't like that. Brychwyn and I bickered a little the way corgis do but in the end we had a good chase. I hope I get to go home again soon but for now hanging out with the Cascadian Nomads isn't too much trouble.
