Brychwyn, Amelia, Wilhelm and Huxley (watching the mosquitoes) in our blood sucking insect infested back yard.
Typist: Bethany
Yesterday started off as a not-so-great day. I have a cold and a strained trapezius. It was just one of those days when the "I don't wanna exercise myself or the dogs" excuse machine runneth over. One of my myriads of justifications for not taking the dogs outside is that our neighborhood is currently chock full of voracious mosquitoes, twenty four hours a day. I did my best to play with the dogs inside and gave them treat puzzles to entertain them. Of course, a variety pack of bored active dogs went completely ballistic when the mail carrier came to the porch with a package. I was expecting something else and thought the scent of the mail was the mail carriers perfume. Surprise! It was my sample of Pet Naturals Flea+Tick (mosquitoes and flies) pre-moistened towelettes. Without the mosquito excuse, I wiped Wilhelm, Brychwyn, Huxley and Amelia down and we headed into the bug filled jungle that is our back yard for some fit dog (and cat) time.

Wiping the dogs down with Pet Naturals Flea+Tick was fast and easy.

No fear of the container or it's scent!
I wasn't the only one who noticed the very pleasant smell of Pet Naturals Flea+Tick wipes. The dogs and cat definitely minded this natural flea and tick repellent less than others we have tried. By minded less I mean there was no rolling around to get it off, running away from the wipe container or hiding from me with the wipe in my hand. When we went into the yard, the first thing I did was set all four pets up in the most mosquito ridden area.* This would be the ultimate test of the effectiveness of Pet Naturals Flea+Tick active ingredients of lemon grass, cinnamon, sesame and castor oils. I was most excited to try this product because the simple ingredients list made me very happy. It's shocking when natural flea and tick repellents include ingredients that are toxic to dogs and cats (parrots too) like citronella, cedarwood and tea tree oils. Even the three inactive ingredients of Pet Naturals Flea+Tick (purified water, vitamin E and a moistening agent, polysorbate 20) are very straight forward.

There were plenty of mosquitoes around. Some even briefly landed on the dogs. But none stayed. They were indeed repelled! If only I had been so lucky. An insatiable blood sucker bit me in a(n unmentionable) spot I must have missed with my own repellent. Grr. Anyways, we went on to have some wonderful fit dog time thanks to Pet Naturals Flea+Tick. But what about fleas and ticks? Well, I trust that if this product was so effective with the wildly hungry mosquitoes in my yard, it will likely work with the other awful blood suckers out there too. Time will tell and I will definitely keep you posted.

Amelia is happy to have Pet Naturals Flea+Tick and her net tunnel to protect her while she suns herself, er, I mean has fit cat time.
Would you like to try Pet Naturals Flea+Tick? Head on over to the Pet Naturals® of Vermont website and fill out this form. The first 200 people will receive a free canister of Pet Naturals Flea+Tick wipes (a $22 value! US only.) After the first 200 entries, a valuable coupon will be e-mailed. Be sure to tell them Cascadian Nomads sent you!
*This was not as terrible a risk to the dogs health as it would be in parts of the country where heartworm is prevalent. While cases of heartworm have been reported in Washington state there have not been the correct conditions for heartworm to be carried by mosquitoes in our area so far this year.

I filled out the form, I hope they work for us. Mr. N gets so itchy (flea allergy).

I hope so too! We had a husky with a flea allergy. Active, outdoorsy dogs with flea allergies make the need for diligent pest control SO much more important!

We so realise how lucky we are with no ticks or mozzies to worry about. Hope they don't bother you all too much. Have a fabulous Friday.
Best wishes Molly

Living in Vermont, and trying to spend as much time as possible outside with our dogs and cats, I am always happy to see safe products that repel insects. Thanks for sharing this product info.

I feel like I am soon going to be able to apply for a PhD in natural flea and tick repellent for dogs and cats with all we the kinds we have tried this spring. With the pleasant smell and the dogs not frightened reaction to the Pet Naturals, I think our search may finally be over!

One of the best things about living in SoCal is the lack of mosquitoes...hates those little buggers. Looks like you've found a solution though - you should try it on you too ;) Thanks for joining the Hop.

After I was bit, I actually did rub one of the wipes I had already used on the cat lightly over my clothes. The product is not for humans but, honestly, it helped!

Me too! It is so hard to find something effective that is also safe for all the pets especially Leo. Finger's crossed for a blood sucking insect free summer!

I have a canister on the way after reading about it on another blog. I am glad to see you've seen some good results so far. The other all natural products aren't doing it for the ticks, so I need to try something else. I actually just put up a post on the subject today!

I was happy to see that Jodi has been using Pet Naturals Flea+Tick successfully for a while: http://www.heartlikeadog.com/2014/06/04/protecting-your-dog-from-fleas-and-ticks/ I hope it can help your continuing tick problem. I left you a long comment with some other tips. Let's keep supporting each other in our all natural insect repelling choice!

Yes, thank you for your comment (I plan to reply, just ran out of time today)! I appreciate the tips and most of all the support! I agree we should support each other....I don't want to cave in to the chemicals, so I need all the help I can get. :) It's good to know that other bloggers that I like and respect, like you and Jodi, are doing the same thing.
I might have to quiz you on what you use for yourself too...I've been getting too many bug bites myself lately (mosquitoes and the dreaded "black flies" that I think we only have here in New England).
I will definitely keep you updated on our battle over here! :)

I filled in the form....Hope I get a sample! We don't have too many mozzies (as Molly calls them), but the ticks are out of control and I absolutely despise putting toxic pesticides on my dogs!

Be sure to let me know if you get a sample and how it works with the ticks, Taryn. Our neighborhood mosquitoes are the worst I have ever encountered (and I am from Western New York!) but our ticks are pretty wussy. We do have some higher density tick area travels planned this summer so I want the boys protected. Another brand of wipes I tried did not help with ticks when we were on our Southwest road trip. :(

I like the sounds of this wipe--I wonder if it works on humans too. :) (I hate the smell of the natural mosquito repellants I use.)

I hope you quickly get past your strained trapezius. Shoulder pain is about as much fun as knee pain. :D

Did you fill out the form to try it? It does smell really good. And lately our yard has been so bad that I either need to douse myself with so much natural bug repellent that the smell doesn;t wash off in one shower or I have had to resort to DEET (which still hasn't kept the little blood suckers away!!!)

I honestly don't mind a little shoulder pain (I have had 2 frozen shoulders) but the pain into my neck is, well, a pain in the neck! I hope your knee heals up quickly. I want to hike with you in a few weeks!

The product looks great, how on earth did you get the mosquito? It must be nice to have a yard like that to play in and other dogs! I'm wondering, do you give your cat monthly heartworm meds if you have mosquitos that bad. Love Dolly

Our neighborhood used to be a swamp so there is a great deal of groundwater everywhere. And our yard is a small, city yard, but it is nice to have a yard. I often long for a simpler, smaller, town-home type life, because the yard is work and time I don't really want to give but it is nice.

Amelia is an indoor cat. She only comes outside on a leash or in her stroller or tunnel so natural mosquito bite protection and annual heartworm testing is enough for her. Heartworm needs a string of way warmer temperatures than we normally get here for mosquitoes to grow transmittable heartworm larvae. I keep a close eye on unseasonable temperatures, though, and if we have a long string of warm nights (the most we had last year was three) I am extra weary of mosquitoes. But long strings of warmth also dries up our neighborhood ground water and gets rid of the pests!

Simple is always good especially with topical products. But they also need to work! I'm so glad we found Pet Naturals... and we could have the game of chase!
