Phoenix was fabulous. The weather while we were in the Sonoran desert was perfect. We didn't get to do as much hiking, exploring and adventuring as I had originally planned because Huxley was nursing a cracked pad on his left paw but we had wonderful visits with friends and family. Probably the most fun for Wilhelm, Brychwyn and Huxley was our visit with my cousin, his wife and their dogs Buddy and Bolt. My cousin and his wife live on a large fenced property. The dogs got to run loose in the desert and take breaks in the shade. It was truly a canine desert paradise.
Non-traveling people quote "all good things must come to and end" but we nomads prefer moving on as a search to find more good things. And so it was as we loaded up and left Phoenix, Arizona for a long weekend of camping at Lake Mead National Recreation Area in Nevada. It was a short but very dramatic drive. The colors of the rocks and mountains left me breathless. We also had very exciting weather and the white, gray and black clouds added extraordinary depth to the scenery. It even rained on us! Yes, rain. In Arizona. Since there is a drought, I know I was not the only one who was thrilled to see, smell and feel rain but this Cascadian in the desert definitely savored the moisture. |
